Seventeen Year Old Charged With Shooting Officers Found Imcompetent
Today, Pima County Superior Court Judge Howard fell ruled that Travis Hylton is mentally imcompetent to stand trail for the shooting of two officers and the stabbing of one in May of this year. Hylton had broke into a home and took a baby hostage, barricading himself when officers arrived at the scene. Officers forced entry in to the home and attempted to arrest Hylton. Hylton stabbed one officer several times and was able to get his gun. As the second officer grabbed the child and the injured officer, Hylton fired the gun again as they exited the home. Hylton again fired the weapon at another officer hitting him on the leg. Hylton was arrested a couple blocks away from the scene with the empty weapon. Judge Fell has ordered Hylton in to competency restoration program and a status hearing for October 6th. Violence in this City continues to grow against police officers. Since the month of May we have had an officer killed, two officers shot, one officer severly stabbed and several other officers shot at. TPD is operating in patrol with under 500 officers-that's less than we did in 1998. As the City leaders continue to ignore this with the hopes that it will "go away" our officers are doing more with less and the violence goes on and on. Please contact your Council member and the City Manager's office and let them know this is not acceptable.
AZ Star Missing Real Issues
In today's Arizona Daily Star article titled, "UA Bike Thefts Drop", you have to wonder what the Star is thinking. With all the crime, especially this years homicide rate, they have provided their readers a front page, above the fold article with picture, about bike thefts at the UofA. Does it really matter? Does anyone really care? Back in May when this Association began informing the community about the crime in this city the TPOA was demonized and accused of spreading fear. The Star was not alone. City Council members such as Trasoff and Glassman followed suit in order to deflect the truth of the police staffing shortage. The newspapers and many of the Council have their priorities all out of whack. Your personal safety and the crime in the City takes a back seat to bicycle thefts!
